New Zealand announced 15-man squad for the World Cup
2 players of Indian origin have got place in the team
New Delhi. New Zealand has announced its 15-member provisional team for the ODI World Cup starting from October 5 in India. Kane Williamson, who is recovering from a knee injury, will take charge of the New Zealand team in the World Cup. However, it is not yet clear whether he will play in the opening match of the World Cup against England to be held on October 5 or not. Two spinners of Indian origin have also got a place in the New Zealand team. One is leg spinner Ish Sodhi and the other is Rachin Ravindra. He has been included in the team as a spin all-rounder. Left arm spinner Mitchell Santner has also been successful in making a place in the World Cup team.
Let us tell you that Rachin Ravindra is of Indian origin. Although, he was born in Wellington but his parents Ravi Krishnamurthy and Deepa were born in India. Ravi worked as a software system architect in Bangalore and came to New Zealand in the early 90s. Ravi himself used to play club cricket in India and he had founded the Hat Hawks club in New Zealand and he used to take his team to India in the off-season.
Rachin has connection with Dravid-Sachin
Rachin Ravindra played the Under-19 World Cup for New Zealand at the age of just 16. He scored his first List A century while playing for Wellington in the 2019-20 Ford Trophy. In the same season, he also scored his first first-class century in the Plunket Shield. Rachin’s name has been kept by combining the names of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Rahul Dravid has been named by taking the first two English letters of his name – RA and Sachin’s name – Chin. Rachin has not played ODI against India.
Rachin made his test debut against India
Rachin made his debut in the Kanpur Test against India in November 2021 and in the very first match, he dashed India’s hopes of victory. New Zealand had a target of 284 runs to win the Kanpur Test. On the last day, the Kiwi team had lost 9 wickets for 155 runs at one time. Even after this, 8 overs of play were left but two players of Indian origin, Rachin Ravindra, played 18 balls in 91 balls and Ajaz Patel played 23 balls and made the match a draw. Both of them created such a mess that India could not take the last wicket.
