3-judge bench to hear plea on criminalization of marital rape: Supreme Court

New Delhi, July 19 (Agency)
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said a three-judge bench will hear pleas on criminalization of marital rape after the constitution bench hears some listed petitions. When senior advocate Indira Jaising mentioned the matter for hearing, a bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and Manoj Sinha said, “We have to deal with marital rape cases.” “My case is related to the child sexual abuse case,” said the senior lawyer. The CJI said these matters would be heard by a three-judge bench and would be listed after the five-judge constitution bench completed hearing some listed matters. A five-judge constitution bench headed by the chief justice is currently hearing petitions related to rules for grant of driving licenses for various types of vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act.
