Chandigarh, 19 April (Trinew)

After the school bus accident in Kanina (Mahendragarh), the government has become strict about school vehicles. However, the director of the private school is also opposing the action taken by the government. After this incident, the education department is on high alert for the safety of school children. Now the school principals will have to give an affidavit regarding the compliance of the vehicle safety policy. Instructions have been issued in this context to all the District Education Officers of the State by the Directorate of Secondary Education. They were instructed to take oath from private schools. Through an affidavit the school owner and principal shall ensure that the school vehicle meets the fitness standard. Private schools will also be responsible for the vehicles on contract. The government has given time to complete the rules within a week.

After this a special campaign will be launched jointly by the Department of Transport and Education. It is mandatory for the principals of private schools to mention the registration number along with the recognition of the school in the affidavit given to the district education authorities on the safe vehicle policy.

It is mandatory for the students to provide the information about the type of vehicles, bus, jeep, auto, mini bus and the seating capacity of the children along with the registration number and validity period of the fitness certificate.

Apart from this in the affidavit the private schools will also have to mention that the vehicle is from the school or has been rented. Only after the affidavit will a special inspection of the vehicles be conducted.

DEO and Khand Shiksha Adhikari along with Transport Secretary will check the fitness of school vehicles. Vehicles not meeting the standards will also be impounded.

Daily attendance will be recorded on the portal

The Director of Secondary Education has asked to register the daily attendance of teachers and students on the MIS portal. Although such rules are already in place, they are not being followed in many places. Due to this, strict orders have been given to the education authorities of the districts. It is mandatory to mark the attendance of every student and teacher regularly on MIS portal on daily basis. The District Education Officer will monitor and review school wise attendance report regularly. Attendance marking of students on MIS portal will be completed daily by 10.00 AM and for second shift in double shift schools by 2.00 PM. Both module manuals are available on the Department’s website/MIS portal.
