Tens of thousands of type 1 diabetes patients in England will benefit from a technology called an artificial pancreas, to help them monitor their health.

This technology uses a device, implanted under the skin, to automatically monitor glucose levels and calculate the amount of insulin pumped into the body.

Later this month, the Public Health Authority will begin contacting adults and children who may benefit from this technology.

But those responsible for the authority warned that providing this device to all those who need it in the country may take five years.
