New Delhi. Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin feels that T20 cricket as a sport is now moving towards where football has reached. Ashwin also believes that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is already using ‘retired out’ of late as a strategic move. Ashwin started it for the first time in the current season of the league but he expects to see a lot more in the near future.
35 years old Ashwin On Sunday, he came out to bat at number six for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants but left the field after 2 balls in the 19th over, due to which Riyan Parag landed at the crease. Ashwin scored 28 runs in 23 balls before retiring.

Ashwin told his YouTube channel, ‘T20 as a game is going towards where football has reached. The way substitute players are used in football, I did (retired out) in the same way. We are already late in this, but I believe that we will see a lot of it in the coming days.
He said, ‘I don’t think it will be a ‘stain’ like running out a player standing at the ‘non-striker’ end.’ However, he feels that this move may not always work. “Sometimes it may work and sometimes it may not,” he said. In football these things happen all the time and we haven’t fully entered T20 cricket. This is the next generation game.
Ashwin said, ‘You will see in football that Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo often score goals but their team’s goalkeeper should always save the goal and their defenders should always defend well. Only then will Messi or Ronaldo be in the headlines. He could not hit the desired boundary in the last over, so Ashwin thought that it would be better to make way for Parag.
Ashwin, who has taken more than 650 wickets in international cricket, said, ‘It was just a strategic move but Riyan Parag was batting very well and when Krishnappa Gautam’s (16th) over came to an end I gave myself some time -5-6 Ball – To see if I can hit a six or two fours.
He said, ‘I tried to hit and could not time it properly but a player like Riyan Parag who was sitting in the dugout with only 10 balls left. Had he come and hit two sixes, we could have scored well. It was a strategic decision. Ashwin was also the first player to be run out at the ‘non-striker’ end in the IPL, creating a controversy in 2019 by similarly dismissing Jos Buttler.
