Valverde’s men continue to rise and dominate an Alavés that gives up the first points at home
MADRID, September 22 (.) –
Athletic Club beat Deportivo Alavés (0-2) this Friday at the start of the sixth day of LaLiga EA Sports held at the Mendizorroza Stadium, thanks to the goals of Iñaki Williams and Oihan Sancet, one in each half.
The ‘lions’ continue to roar loudly at the beginning of the season, adding 13 points to consolidate their position in the Champions League zone. The derby was dyed red and white with flashes of quality, smiling effectiveness and intensity.
The match started evenly, with a brave Alavés without the ball and putting pressure on the opponent’s exit. However, in a masterful pass from Mikel Vesga, Iñaki Williams took advantage of the first to make it 0-1 in the 18th minute, confirming a good nose for the current season, which is necessary for his team.
The local team lost the strength and determination that the derby demanded and, in a luxury heel, Iñaki was close to leaving another important assist if Sancet does not forgive before the break. In the subsequent corner kick, Vivian ran into the crossbar, closing the visitors’ first half as a script for Vitoria to see the first points of the season slip away.
The impact was making itself felt, with friction and yellow cards, but Athletic was the one who was on top of everything, also dominating after the restart. De Marcos provided depth and, with set pieces, with Vesga, the Bilbao options followed. Alavés woke up at game time, finally finding Kike García in attack, in two consecutive unchecks that tested Unai Simón.
It was the step forward for Luis García’s team, but Valverde’s team punished behind them, in the middle of a back-and-forth in which Samu forgave a very clear one for the locals. With the return of the hero of Alavés’ promotion, a Villalibre in red and white, Athletic accepted the round trip and settled with Sancet.
