The Artificer is available in the tabletop version of D&D, but not in the base version of Baldur’s Gate 3. Which makes perfect sense, because they are part of a completely different setting.

Artificers specialize in using technical know-how to hone their skills. With firearms and scientific knowledge on their side, they can perform various unique abilities depending on their subclass.
These include creating alchemical mixtures, summoning mechanical servants to assist in combat, and refining armor with special modifiers.
The Artificer is probably just the start of other classes that will be added to the game in this way.
