Mexico City.- Sergio Pérez’s smile on the podium in Saudi Arabia said it all.
The Mexican was almost perfect in the Jeddah circuit and once again demonstrated his ability to beat his teammate Max Verstappen, for the fourth time (Azerbaijan, Monaco and Singapore) on the streets and by a difference of more than 5 seconds with the Red Bull.
Only at the start, as happened in Bahrain, Checo lost ground with Fernando Alonso and his Aston Martin, but he quickly recovered and the Safety Car caused by Lance Stroll, he did not make the same mistake and got as far away as possible.
“It turned out to be more difficult than expected. The safety car, we really did the job in the first part trying to snatch the win again in Jeddah. The team did a fantastic job. They worked very hard over the weekend.
“We had a lot of mechanical problems, but they have been aware. It’s time to celebrate. The important thing today is that we were the fastest car. There is some work to do. We have to work a bit to get better starts in the future.” said the Guadalajara.
For now, Checo is second in the Drivers’ Championship with 43 points, one less than Verstappen, as the Dutchman took the fastest lap from him.
