Three security force officers, including an army colonel, were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Kokernag area of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat were seriously injured in the firing and later died, officials said on Wednesday. He said Bhatt died due to excessive bleeding.
Officials said the operation against terrorists in Gadole area had started on Tuesday evening, but it was stopped at night. Officials said the search for the terrorists was resumed on Wednesday morning after information was received that they had been spotted at one place. Colonel Manpreet, who was leading his team, attacked the terrorists, during which heavy firing started from the other side as well. During this the colonel was seriously injured. He died later. Major and DSP were also martyred in the joint operation against terrorists.
Tribute paid to Rifleman Ravi Kumar: Tributes were paid to Rifleman Ravi Kumar, who lost his life in the operation against terrorists, in Rajouri early on Wednesday.
Colonel Manpreet was a resident of Mohali.
Colonel Manpreet was a resident of Padunjian village of Mullanpur Garibdas town in Mohali district of Punjab. There is mourning in the area after the news of his martyrdom.
3 terrorists killed in Rajouri, Labrador dog also martyred
Three terrorists were killed in a prolonged encounter in Rajouri. A suspected Pakistani terrorist was killed in an encounter in remote Narla village on Tuesday, officials said. An army soldier and a six-year-old female Labrador Kent of the army’s dog unit were also martyred in the firing, while three security personnel were injured. Another terrorist was killed in an encounter on Wednesday. Earlier on Monday, a terrorist was killed in the forest area of Patrada area.
