Congressman Diego Bazán (Avanza País) announced that the controversial statements made by his colleague María Agüero (Perú Libre) regarding Víctor Polay Campos, former head of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA)will be analyzed in the Ethics Commission that will be chaired by him in the period 2023-2025.

“It is an issue that we are going to review and any citizen in Peru can denounce without any problem,” he said on Willax Television. In that line, bazan emphasized that It is not the first time that Agüero has made such benevolent statements with subversives.
“It is not the first time that I have heard similar phrases from my colleague (Agüero). It’s really unbelievable that it’s coming from a congressman,” he noted. In his opinion, a precedent should be set with the legislator of the party founded by Vladimir Cerron.
Bazán questioned whether cases like María Agüero’s could be resolved more quickly if the Ethics Commission’s regulations did not establish that three months are required for the corresponding investigations.
The entire controversy arose as a result of the journalists approaching congresswoman Agüero to offer her opinion regarding the decision of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to admit for processing the lawsuit filed by the legal defense of Polay Campos against the Peruvian state.
“There is no right to overwhelm the rights of others. What did Polay do specifically? Why do they call him a terrorist? And the terrorism that comes from the State,” said the leftist. Furthermore, she rejected the possibility floated by a sector of Parliament that the country would leave the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
In July, Agüero also took a position in favor of “comrade Vilma,” who is accused of being a spokeswoman for the remnants of Luminous Path in the valley of the Apurímac and Ene rivers (Vraem).
“It doesn’t sound like the term comrade to me. […] He is an alleged terrorist. In order for it to stop being presumed, who would have to fulfill its function, that it fulfill it and when it is proven that it is a terrorist, that it end up where a terrorist should end up. As long as she is presumed, how are they going to sully the name of who she was, ”she said on that occasion.
In addition, the parliamentarian noted that she had ideas in common with ‘comrade Vilma’. “I don’t even know her. (About her message) That is what I shout out loud when I have the opportunity here in the Congress of the Republic, ”she said.
On that occasion, Agüero’s words were placed in the context of the terrorist’s announcement to support the so-called ‘Take of Lima’ that was to be carried out in the capital in protest against the regime of Dina Boluarte.
It must be remembered that María Agüero became known for publicly complaining that she did not have enough congressional salary to live on.
“When I have been a candidate, when they told me, would you be willing to lower your salary as a congressman?, my response has been: Life in Lima is very expensive. If we want to do good management and represent remote places, I would say that the salary of a congressman, my money will cost me more than the salary I receive. (…) My salary is not enough for all the work and commitment we have, “she said in September 2021.
Then, Agüero returned to express his annoyance for the S / 15,600 that he receives as “mother of the country.” “I want to tell you, they tell us that congressmen earn 15 thousand soles, how much do we receive? 10 thousand, how much do they discount us and where does it go? to health insuranceexpressed during a plenary session in March 2022.
