Displaced by La Familia Michoacana implore humanitarian aid

CHILPANCINGO, Gro. (process.com.mx).- Residents displaced by armed attacks by La Familia Michoacana in the San Miguel Totolapan mountains are begging for food, medicine and supplies.

This Sunday, the commissioner of Toro Muerto Station, Gabriel Sandoval Salinas, released a letter signed by residents of Linda Vista, Plan Verde, Las Maquinas and Petlacala in which they urgently request “humanitarian aid” from society.

Neighbors from these communities began arriving in Toro Muerto since Thursday, August 31, due to the attacks against them with explosives directed with drones and high-caliber weapons perpetrated by the criminal organization La Familia Michoacana, according to their complaints.

The attack forced dozens of towns in San Miguel Totolapan and Heliodoro Castillo to self-defense and ask for the intervention of the governor, Evelyn Salgado, and the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to avoid “bloodshed.” They assured that wood, unexploded mines and water in the area are at stake.

Meanwhile, about 150 women, elderly people and children fled their towns, with only the clothes they were wearing, to take refuge in Toro Muerto.

In the document, the authority warns that they are running out of food.

“It is necessary to ask for all possible help. The most urgent thing is food from the basic basket, canned goods, medicines, clothes, shoes, coats, soap and toilet paper.”
