Drug trafficker beheads police chief in Michoacán

Mexico City.- A Michoacán police chief assigned to eight municipalities in the Pátzcuaro region was beheaded and burned along with two of her bodyguards.

Commissioner Cristal García Hurtado was intercepted by alleged hitmen while she was traveling with her bodyguards, Itzel Madero Larrea and David de Jesús Espinoza Valdez, on the Pátzcuaro-Uruapan free highway last Sunday night.

García Hurtado had been appointed to the position by General José Alfredo Ortega Reyes, Secretary of Public Security in that entity governed by Morena.

The Civil Guard Police Station assigned to the victim includes the municipalities of Ario de Rosales, Erongaricuaro, Huiramba, Lagunillas, Quiroga, Salvador Escalante, Tacámbaro, Tzintzuntzan and Pátzcuaro.

The police chief and the two agents were traveling in their patrol along the stretch of road that connects the Purépecha towns of San Juan Tumbio and Santa Ana Chapitiro when they were ambushed near El Columpio, at kilometer 8 of the highway, according to the police. first reports from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

Cristal García, 34 years old; Itzel Madero, 32, and David de Jesús, 33, were subdued and had their hands tied on the side of the road, where they were murdered and beheaded on the side of their patrol car, which was later set on fire.

The State Prosecutor’s Office indicated that at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday personnel from its Expert Services and Crime Scene Unit went to the point of the attack, where they confirmed the discovery of the lifeless bodies.

Until yesterday, the motive for the multiple homicide was unknown, but the agency indicated that it is already exploring various lines of investigation related to the activities carried out in the region by Civil Guard personnel.

For its part, the entity’s Public Security Secretariat condemned the murder of its fellow civil guards.

“We collaborate so that the Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office carries out the necessary actions to find those responsible promptly,” he said in a statement.

Among the criminal groups that operate in that lake region of Michoacán are the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and Pueblos Unidos, according to the intelligence area of ​​the state Secretariat of Public Security (SSP).
