EA has made layoffs at Respawn focused on the Apex Legends team

The Respawn Entertainment team dedicated to Apex Legends has suffered a wave of layoffs in recent hours.

Electronic Arts announced a few weeks ago a restructuring that would cost 670 people their jobs in different teams and departments.

Although it did not detail at the time who it would affect, numerous Respawn employees have commented on the layoffs on social networks.

For example, level designer Aaron Stump commented that had occurred in the Apex team and that “it’s disgusting to see some of the people I’ve worked with for almost three years being fired.”

Peter Stewart, Senior Screenwriter, indicated that it had been a hard day and, although he was not among those laid off, he offered all his support and help to those affected. He commented that “it is very difficult to find the energy and joy to create games in this environment.”

One of the people affected was Alex Ackerman, in charge of global social networks, who has been fired “after 20 Apex Seasons and five years at Respawn.”

The restructuring had already claimed a project within Respawn: a first-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe. It has also affected the studios involved in Battlefield, including the closure of Ridgeline Studios.
