Ebrard justifies Antony Blinken’s statements about drug trafficking in Mexico; he was “very pressured”

MEXICO CITY (apro).– Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón justified this Wednesday his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, as he asserted that the senior official was “very pressured” in his appearance before Republican Senator Lindsay Graham when he declared that the government of Joe Biden would “consider” listing Mexican criminal groups as international terrorist organizations.

“I see him, I saw him in a hearing, under great pressure, but he said ‘Mexico is doing a lot’, I just saw him just now. And that is not politicking, what he is doing is appearing,” the foreign minister said when asked about Biden’s statement.

Ebrard stressed that the fight against fentanyl took a central place in the electoral process in the United States, and that it has unleashed a lot of “politicking” against Mexico – an expression that he took up from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador – on the other side of the border.

“It is an electoral resource and we have to be aware of that and it is not new, in the last campaign, it was the same,” he said, referring to the immigration issue that was capitalized on by former President Donald Trump.

“Then we are going to defend ourselves and we will say what we have to say and not lose our cool,” added the foreign minister.
