The Israeli military on Saturday ordered the evacuation of Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital in the “next hour”. AFP gave this information in its report. According to reports, soldiers called hospital director Mohammed Abu Salmiya and instructed him to “ensure the evacuation of patients, injured, displaced persons and medical staff and take them on foot to the beach.”
Let us tell you that two days ago, Israeli soldiers had searched inside this hospital to raid Hamas hideouts. They claimed to have a tunnel inside the compound and a vehicle with weapons. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a video claiming that there is a tunnel door on the outskirts of Gaza’s largest hospital. However, the video could not be confirmed.
Al-Shifa hospital, meanwhile, is struggling to keep itself afloat. This hospital has become the center of Israel-Hamas war. This war is now entering its seventh week. Hamas’ health ministry in Gaza said dozens of people had died in hospitals due to power cuts caused by fuel shortages.
Where Israel had earlier given no instructions to vacate the hospital and had entered inside and searched it. But on Saturday suddenly orders were given that the entire hospital should be evacuated. The doctors have said that the patients cannot be shifted. According to the United Nations, about 2,300 patients, staff and displaced people were sheltering at the hospital before Israeli troops entered on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a doctor at Al Shifa Hospital said on Friday that they were running out of food and water. He said the supplies supplied by the Israeli military were “very little”. He said, “People ran out of food, ran out of drinking water. Yesterday, they arranged some, just some food and water, which is very little. It was so little that people around here Perhaps even 40 percent of the population will not be able to feed themselves with this.”
Gaza’s largest hospital, al-Shifa, has become a flashpoint in Israel’s war in the enclave. The war began when Hamas militants crossed the border into Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200 people. Palestinians and humanitarian agencies say the current fighting in and around al-Shifa is causing significant damage to civilian life in Gaza. Israel has accused Hamas of using the medical center as a shield for its operations.
