Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, is essential for various body functions. It is a part of the water-soluble vitamin B-complex. It is found in two forms: nicotinic acid and nicotinamide. Vitamin B3 and heart relationship

Niacin supplements have been used to treat hyperlipidemia, as it helps lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol. But, excessive amounts of Niacin can cause flushing, itching and liver damage.

The results of the study suggest that niacin or vitamin B3 may be a new risk factor for heart diseases. Dr. Stanley Hazen, lead researcher of the study, says, “It is now clear why, despite reducing cholesterol, niacin does not provide as much benefit as was expected. This suggests that more Niacin also has some disadvantages in large amounts.”
