A French government oversight agency has ordered Apple to remove the iPhone 12 from the market, saying the levels of electromagnetic radiation it emits are too high.
The National Frequency Agency, which oversees radio frequencies as well as public exposure to electromagnetic radiation, asked Apple in a statement to “put all available means to quickly resolve this malfunction.”
The department will monitor corrective updates for that cell phone model, he added in the note, adding that if they do not work “Apple will have to withdraw” the devices it has already sold, he added.
The agency, known by its French acronym ANFR, said it recently tested 141 cell phones, including Apple’s iPhone 12, for electromagnetic waves that can be absorbed by the human body.
According to their conclusions, tests with the phone in one hand or in a pocket showed an electromagnetic energy absorption level of 5.74 several per kilo, above the European standard of 4.0 several per kilo.
The agency indicated that the iPhone 12 met the mark when the device was in a jacket or bag.
