Sometimes we see in our house that a member of the house is going to defecate again and again. In normal circumstances we call it diarrhea. However, in older people who are above 70, they generally go to the toilet 5-6 times a day. The reason they give for this is that their stomach is upset or they suffer from constipation due to which they are not able to completely pass the stool in one go. If one goes to defecate two-three times regularly, it is considered to be due to a problem in the digestive system or liver. However, the habit of going to the toilet more than twice should not be ignored. On an average, defecating twice a day is considered normal, but defecating more often than this is a sign of some disease in the body or a malfunction in the digestive system. Many times this problem is seen due to change in diet, but then it gets cured on its own.

The problem of defecating more than two-three times can occur due to many reasons. According to Ayurveda doctors, this problem is called frequent bowel movement. There can be different reasons for this problem in every person. Apart from this, some kind of infection or problem in the large intestine can also be the reason. Frequent defecation can also be a symptom of irritable bowel syndrome. Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder that affects the large intestine. In this disease, there is no change in the structure of the intestines of the patients, hence many times it is considered to be just an illusion of the patient. But even if there is no change in the structure of the intestines, the patient still has problems like constipation or frequent diarrhea, stomach ache, gas etc.

Avoid unhealthy foods – Avoid foods that increase IBS symptoms. This may vary according to each person. Like milk, chocolate, beverages, coffee, alcohol etc. If the problem is severe then avoid cabbage, potato, lemon and fried foods.

Maintain regularity in eating habits – Make a habit of eating food at regular time. Do not eat too much at one go, take small amounts at several times. Include more curd, buttermilk etc. in your diet.

Do exercise, yoga, travel – Travel, do yoga, exercise regularly, this reduces the stress level and helps in proper digestion of food.

Many herbs of Ayurveda like Bilva, Kutaj, Chitrak, Haritaki, Amla, Dadim, Pippali, Panchkol, Shunthi and medicines like Panchamrit Parpati, Ras Parpati, Swarna Parpati, Gangadhar Churna, Shankh Bhasma are very beneficial in IBS disease. . Isabgol – Taking 1-2 spoons of Isabgol husk with curd in case of diarrhea and with hot milk in case of constipation proves to be very beneficial in the symptoms of IBS.

Bilva and Triphala powder – Triphala proves useful in case of excessive diarrhea and constipation.
