Many Palestinian Americans living thousands of miles from Gaza are more than just saddened by the bloody violence they see on screens. They also feel remorse.

“I think many Palestinians in the diaspora have a feeling of remorse, because every Palestinian has Palestine in his heart, regardless of where he currently lives,” says Anis, a Palestinian-American musician who lives in Virginia.

The 31-year-old has 1.7 million followers on Instagram, and since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas he has used his platform to talk about the horrors of war and call for a ceasefire.

He says: “I think that by nature, as Palestinians, we feel remorse when we see destruction and killings, because we could have been in the shoes of the victims.”
