The Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected the petition of the principal of the school in the Greater Faridabad-based DPS School student suicide case. The principal had filed a petition seeking quashing of the allegations in the case. A case has been registered against the accused for abetment to suicide and under the POCSO Act.
During the hearing on the petition, Justice Harnaresh Singh Gill, while hearing the case Surjit Khanna vs. State of Haryana and others, observed that Principal Surjit Khanna did not report the matter to the police for almost five months, which was a violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO). is an offense punishable under the Act). Such information should be reported to the police.
On February 24, 2022, a 16-year-old student, a resident of Discovery Society, Sector-80, committed suicide by jumping from the 15th floor. The mother of the deceased student was an arts teacher in the same school for eight years. The mother of the deceased had told the police that her son was harassed in the toilet by some school children last year. Often the students used to bully him. It is alleged that even a teacher used to harass her. The student had also complained several times. In the matter, the student’s mother had also given a complaint by emailing the school management, alleging that the management did not take any action on her complaints. The principal in the case is currently out on bail.
