Holy Week 2024: 98% of the beaches in Mexico are suitable for ‘vacation’

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris)in coordination with the state Health Risk Protection Areas (APCRS), reported that 98 percent of the beaches in Mexico are suitable for recreational use.

Remember that every year, Cofepris carries out monitoring to through the APCRS to evaluate the quality of seawater in the 17 coastal states of the country.

On this occasion, prior to the start of the Easter holiday period 2024, sampling was carried out on 289 beaches distributed in 76 tourist destinations.

This analysis included a total of two thousand 238 samples obtained in 393 pointsand revealed that 98 percent of the beaches (283 in total) meet the standards for recreational use.

However, six beaches exceeded permitted levels of enterococciaccording to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), the majority located in the north of the country.

The federal commission coordinated with the APCRS of the aforementioned entities the implementation of immediate sanitation actions to achieve optimal conditions on the six aforementioned beaches and prevent health risks.

Cofepris urged the population to maintain beach cleanliness during the holiday season, since he said: “it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve these natural spaces.”
