INAI will investigate data leaks from the Presidency

The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) began an ex officio investigation into the disclosure of personal data contained in various documents in the case file. “Marquez Padilla”which were published by the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, on Friday, May 3.

Just yesterday, the director of Pemex, Octavio Oropeza, accused the director of Mexicans against Corruption of illegally collecting a million-dollar pension.

In an information card, the body indicated that the Presidency of the Republic is responsible for protecting the personal data it possesses and processes in the exercise of its powers, and is obliged to comply with the principles, duties and obligations provided for in the regulations.

The INAI warned that the published documents contain data on people related by kinship ties, which identify or make different natural persons identifiable, which is why it presumes the existence of non-compliance with the General Law on Protection of Personal Data in Possession of Obligated Subjects.

Furthermore, the Institute remains attentive to complaints that could be presented by people affected by the dissemination of their personal data, in order to initiate the corresponding procedures.

The president commissioner of the INAI, Adrian Alcala “strongly” condemned the leak of personal data. “I strongly condemn the leak of personal data that has been carried out through the Government of Mexico portal. In a democracy, this represents a Attack on freedom of expression and the right to privacy.”

He pointed out that it is worrying that the Presidency does not recognize the severity of spreading personal information, without the consent of the owners.

He indicated that the INAI will take the corresponding measures to investigate the situation.
