India won the third ICC title within 6 years due to Dhoni’s charisma, England entangled in Jadeja’s net

New Delhi. The date of 23 June is very special in the history of Indian cricket. Team India won the Champions Trophy title on this day in 2013 by defeating England at his home under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. At one time this match seemed to be slipping from the hands of India. But, Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, in two consecutive overs, turned the whole turn of the match towards India by running 4 England batsmen and in a rain-hit match, India defended the modest target of 129 runs in 20 overs. Won by 5 runs. With this victory, Dhoni has registered his name in the pages of history. He became the first captain in the world to win all three ICC trophies (T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy).

Due to rain, the 2013 Champions Trophy final match between India and England was reduced to 20-20 overs. Team India batted first. But, the Indian batting was shattered in front of the English bowlers. Barring Virat Kohli 43 and Ravindra Jadeja unbeaten 33, no batsman could survive. Indian team could score only 129 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. For England, all-rounder Ravi Bopara took three wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs.

Ishant-Jadeja made India’s return to the match
Chasing the target of 130 runs, England also had a poor start and the team lost the first 4 wickets within 50 runs. However, after this the 64-run partnership between Eoin Morgan (33) and Ravi Bopara (30) turned the match towards England. England had scored 102 runs in 17 overs at the loss of 4 wickets. The team was very close to victory. Then Dhoni surprised everyone and handed over the 18th over to Ishant Sharma, who had proved to be very expensive till this over. In such a situation, this decision of Dhoni was risky. But, Ishant got Morgan out on the third ball and got India back in the match. On the very next ball, Ishant also made Ravi Bopara walk.

Dhoni took risky decisions in the final
After this Ravindra Jadeja brought the 19th over of England’s innings. He clean bowled Jos Buttler on the second ball of his over. Butler could not even open the account. Tim Bresnan was run out on the fourth ball. England lost 4 wickets in 2 consecutive overs. In the last over, England needed 15 runs to win. Stuart Broad and James Treadwell were at the crease. Dhoni again surprised everyone and handed the ball to R Ashwin. But, Ashwin lived up to his captain’s decision and gave only 10 runs in this over and India won the final by 5 runs as well as won the Champions Trophy.
