Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana, Shri Anurag Aggarwal has said that the cost of SMS sent in bulk by the candidate during the campaign in Lok Sabha General Election-2024 will also be added to the account of the concerned candidate. During the election campaign period, when the district administration and the concerned Assistant Returning Officer receive information about SMS sent in bulk for alternative election campaign, they will get an estimate of the expenditure incurred on it from the service provider and will add it to the candidate’s account.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that guidelines have been issued by the Election Commission of India that there will be a ban on sending bulk SMS of political nature during the period up to 48 hours before the end of the time fixed for completion of voting. . During the campaign in all the districts, mobile service providers have given instructions to all concerned to bring the information about such bulk SMS to the notice of the monitoring team. The Commission has also issued instructions to conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful process. The team will also keep a close watch on those sending objectionable SMS during the election campaign. During investigation of objectionable SMS, the sender of the SMS will be traced and appropriate action will be taken against him as per rules. It is noteworthy that in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections, voting will be held in Haryana on May 25.
