Virat Kohli scored 49th century on his 35th birthday
Kohli got a special gift after the match against South Africa
New Delhi. Virat Kohli made his 35th birthday special. Kohli scored a century against South Africa in a match of World Cup 2023. This was Kohli’s 49th century in ODIs. With this he equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries. Kohli became the 7th batsman in the world to score a century on his birthday. At the same time, he is the third batsman from India to do so.
After defeating South Africa, he received a special gift from the Cricket Association of Bengal i.e. CAB.
Sourav Ganguly’s brother and CAB President Snehasish Ganguly gifted a gold-plated bat to Virat Kohli on his birthday after the match against South Africa. CAB said in a statement that the bat gifted to Kohli had ‘Happy Birthday Virat’ written on it. It was written on the bottom, “You are a symbol of dedication and living proof that age is just a number.”
Along with this special gift, Kohli also cut a huge cake in the stadium after India’s victory. Happy Birthday Virat was written on it, along with his statue was also placed on it.
Kohli had missed out on equaling Sachin’s record of 49 centuries twice in this World Cup. He was out for 95 runs against New Zealand in Dharamshala. After this, he returned to the pavilion on 88 runs against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. This is the first time Kohli has crossed the 500-run mark in an ODI World Cup and the first time the 35-year-old has scored two centuries in the same edition of the ODI World Cup.
