Latinos shine at the Billboard awards

Mexico City.- In an online delivery, the 2023 Billboard Music Awards were held with several Latin winners this year, including Peso Pluma, Bad Bunny and Karol G, and with a new winner: Morgan Wallen.

Although it was known that this year the ceremony would not be broadcast on television, but rather through their networks, the awards ceremony confused the public because the names of the winning artists were announced in dribs and drabs, in addition to the fact that the event and the musical numbers were pre-recorded in different settings.

Escorted by the imposing Mike Tyson, who has declared himself his fan, Featherweight made his style of prone runs sound when presenting, from a ring, the number “Rubicon.”

In addition, Tyson was in charge of giving the Mexican star his award for Latin Song for the hit “Ella Baila Sola”, which he recorded in collaboration with the group Eslabón Armado.

“The great Featherweight champion,” Tyson exclaimed.

This year, the top Billboard winner was Morgan Wallen, an American country singer, who took home 11 awards, ahead of the favorite Taylor Swift, who of the 20 nominations she had, took home 10 awards.

Some of the shortlists in which Wallen was triumphant include Male Artist, Hot 100 Artist, Streaming Songs Artist, Country Artist, as well as Best Country Tour.

Swift, for her part, won the Artist, Top Hot 100 Songwriter, Female Artist, Best Selling Song for “Anti-Hero” and Female Country Artist categories.

“It’s unreal. To give me 10 Billboard awards and I’m referring to the fans specifically. None of this happens without you. It’s based on what you listen to and what you’re passionate about,” Taylor thanked her millions of “swifties” to through a video.

“And I’m so honored that this year they did the magical tam tour and went to see the movie (The Eras Tour) and were interested in my new recordings. I love them so much and I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have them in my corner, thank you 10 million times.”

Bad Bunny took home three awards, including Latin Artist, Latin Male Artist and Latin Album for “Un Verano Sin Ti.”

The ceremony that changed its award format recognized Karol G, who will come to Mexico in February with her recent tour, as Latin Female Artist and Latin Touring Artist.

The group Fuerza Regida also won two awards: Duo/Group, a category in which it competed with Metallica, and Duo/Latin Group.

This year the BBMAs stage featured a handful of music figures such as DJ David Guetta and Bebe Rexha who together performed “I’m Good (Blue)” and “One In a Million.”

Mariah Carey put a Christmas touch on the awards ceremony by presenting her hit “All Want For Christmas Is You.”

Other winners were Drake with five medals; as well as Zach Bryan and Sza with four.
