Along with an update to its Legion Slim and Pro lines, Lenovo has introduced a new family of gaming laptops, aimed at those who play occasionally or don’t want to mortgage their house to game. Called LOQ, it includes two laptops of 15 and 16 inches, equipped with RTX 4050 or 4060 and latest generation Intel or AMD processors.
Like an air of “One more thing”. At the end of the presentation to the press of its new range of portable PCs gamers Legion, Lenovo also introduced a new sub-brand, dubbed LOQ. Always focused on the players, she “for new gamers looking for a first foray into the game”.
Understand that in addition to the Savage range, with the Legion Pro 5i and Pro 7i, which relies on the full power of high-end RTXs, and the Stealth range, made up of the Slim 5i and 7i, lighter and thinner, the Chinese PC giant – which claims to be the world number 1 in gaming – opens its offer downwards.
This is where LOQs are born…
The LOQ range currently consists of three main elements, two laptops, one 16-inch, the other 15, and a tower. These machines are not intended for hardcore gamersbut should however have in the stomach what to play quietly, for a more or less affordable price.
Let’s focus on laptops. The boxes seem to benefit from a very correct finish, although essentially plastic, if we can trust the pre-production models that we had in our hands.
The dimensions are relatively compact, with 15-inch models measuring 35.96 x 26.48 x 2.52 cm (at the thickest) and weighing around 2.4 kg.
The 2560×1440 inch IPS WQHD LCD panel is refreshed at 165 Hz and VRR compatible. We are a little worried about its brightness, Lenovo is putting forward a very modest 350 cd/m2. It’s often a little low…
The 16-inch models will not do better on this point, but logically display slightly larger dimensions with 35.96 cm in width, 27.76 cm in depth and 2.59 cm in thickness – always at the thickest. The weight is about 2.6 kg.
The 16-inch panel displays a definition of 2560×1600 pixels, refreshed at 165 Hz, and VRR compatible, always.
Intel or AMD of your choice, Nvidia, obligatorily
The two screen diagonals (LCD, of course) are equipped with Intel Core processors of 13e generation (a Core i7-13700H at best) or a Ryzen 7840HS. These processors are supported by 16 GB of RAM (DDR5 at 5600 MHz) and can manage up to 32 GB of Ram in total – even if the data sheet indicates a maximum of 16 GB. Storage is a 512MB SSD as standard, with an optional 1TB maximum. Whether it’s RAM or storage, Lenovo says it’s made it easy to increase the amounts available over time. There are thus two slots for the RAM.
On the graphics card side, Nvidia has been selected and offers its GeForce RTX 4050 or 4060, with 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory, whose announced TDP is 115 W. Of course, Advanced Optimus technology still manages the switch in the chipsets integrated graphics and the card, depending on the uses, in order to favor autonomy or power. Lenovo puts forward an overall TDP for these machines of 230 W.
On the autonomy side, precisely, even if it is not necessarily on this criterion that we expect the machines of gamersLenovo announces 7 hours of battery life (80 Wh battery) for the 16-inch and 6 hours (60 Wh battery) for the 15-inch model.
For connectivity, let’s start with wireless, there is Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, only. For the wired part, Lenovo has the good idea of always distributing its connectors on the sides and at the back. There is therefore a USB-C port on the left side, an audio input / output, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbit / s) port on the right side (for the Intel version, the AMD version is entitled to a USB-A 2.0 port (480 Mbit/s), and at the back, an Ethernet port, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports (10 Gbit/s) and finally an HDMI 2.1 port. and 16 inches.
A bit of patience
Finally, Lenovo is pleased to integrate a chip dedicated to AI, the Lenovo LA. It runs the Lenovo AI Engine +, which is responsible for optimizing consumption, ensuring that the highest number of frames per second are extracted from the configuration according to the best possible thermal performance.
The 15-inch models, LOQ 15IRH8 (Intel processor) and 15APH8 (Intel processor) will be sold from 1,099 euros. The first will however be available a little earlier, since they will be marketed next May, while the AMD LOQs will have to wait until July.
The 16-inch LOQs, nicknamed 16IRH8 and 16APH8 (Intel or AMD, you’ll understand), will be available from next June from 1,119 and 1,149 euros respectively.
