Juarez pitcher Samuel ‘Sammy’ Natera has taken another step in the pursuit of fulfilling his dream of reaching the Major Leagues, after last weekend he was promoted in the United States Minor League Baseball.

The 23-year-old Natera went from the High-A Tri-City Dust Devils to the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas, both organizations of the California Angels, so he is now two rungs away. to reach the ‘Big Top’.

Sammy, raised as a child in the Villahermosa baseball league on this border and graduated from New Mexico State University, was drafted last July by the Angels.

On that occasion, Natera told El Diario that just as his sister was presenting her thesis, he received a call from his representative to let him know that they were going to speak to him from Los Angeles.

This year, Sammy spent the spring training with the Angels, who sent him to the Dust Devils in Pasco, Washington.

It was last weekend when the left-handed pitcher received good news once again, being notified of his transfer, and promotion, to the Rocket City Trash Pandas, a team that plays in the Southern League and is based in Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama.

According to the official Minor League website, this year with the Dust Devils, Sammy pitched in 20 games, all starts, and finished with a 2-8 record and a 4.20 earned run percentage.

The border pitcher was on the hill for 83 innings and two-thirds, made 1,491 pitches, allowed 71 hits, 43 runs, 39 of them earned, and was thrown out of the park on 12 occasions.

Natera hit nine opponents, gave away 42 bases and prescribed 108 chocolates.

In 2022, Sammy clinched the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) title with the NMSU Aggies.
