A week after the end of the actors’ strikes, Netflix canceled, without further ceremony, five television series.
Now that the Hollywood strikes are over, networks and streaming services will have to make tough decisions regarding their existing products. Indeed, many programs are expected to suffer premature cuts. This is due to rising costs, after production on all projects was halted while scriptwriters and actors protested for higher pay.
Days later, Netflix got ahead of the events and eliminated five series, one of which was a success and had a fervent fan base who campaigned to renew the season: shadow and bone.
While the first season of this fantasy series, which is an adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, turned out to be big business for Netflix (it even spawned a video game inspired by the series), the second season wasn’t as successful. . It is believed that the streaming service made the decision to cut the show due to the series’ high budget.
Other programs that will no longer return to the screen are animation ones Agent Elvis and Captain Fallas well as the series starring Kim Cattrall, Glamorous, and the sci-fi comedy Farzar.
When reflecting on the cancellation of shadow and bone On Instagram, Bardugo said she was “heartbroken and deeply disappointed” by the news.
However, she was “grateful” when she declared: “Most authors never get to see their work adapted. Many of those who achieve it end up regretting the experience. “I am one of the few who can contemplate an adaptation of my work with pride and tremendous joy.”
However, fans are criticizing the decision, with many questioning Netflix’s motives.
Writer Héctor Navarro wrote: “Don’t get hooked on a Netflix series for anything in the world. They cancel them as soon as they have the opportunity,” and @LibertySpider added: “Why make series if they don’t plan to finish them?”
@MhayYhusuf called the series “the best show on the platform.” For his part, @JPipo86 wrote: “I was looking forward to seeing how it ended. And well. What can we do?”
