The Health Department has confirmed that India has recorded the first death due to Omicron in Udaipur today. The name of the person who died was Laxminarayan Nagar and his age was 73 years.
According to the report of PTI, Laxminarayan Nagar was found to be Covid positive on 15 December and since then he was admitted in the hospital. He has been reported to have diseases like diabetes and hypertension.
Was hospitalized since December
According to the report of PTI, the Covid samples of Laxminarayan Nagar were sent for genome testing. Meanwhile, he was found to be Covid negative on 21 December. Laxminarayan Nagar has received both doses of Covid and has no special travel history.
The results of the genome testing came on December 25 and they showed signs of an Omicron variant. He died six days later on December 31 at around 3.30 am.
As of today, Wednesday, January 05, 58,097 new Covid cases and 534 deaths have been registered in India in the last 24 hours. With the recovery of 15,389 patients, the active cases of corona in the country have gone up to 2,14,004. A total of 2,135 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been registered in the country so far.
