Chandigarh, September 16 (Trinew)
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda on Saturday reiterated his demand for the government to start purchasing paddy soon and remove the ban imposed on its export. Hooda said that the arrival of paddy has started in the mandis, but due to government procurement not starting yet, farmers are not able to get the benefit of MSP. Farmers are forced to sell crops at rates lower than MSP. First due to flood and now due to government delay, farmers are facing losses. In the statement issued, Hooda said that preparations are going on for the ‘Jan Milan Samaroh’ to be held in Jind. The responsibility of coordinating this function to be held on October 8 has been handed over to senior leader Ashok Arora. The program will be organized by local leaders of the party. Hooda said that the BJP-JJP government is neither able to give MSP nor compensation to the farmers. Bogus paper claims are being made by the government, which are unfortunate and ridiculous. For example, the government has now announced that an incentive amount of Rs 7000 will be given to the farmer who grows paddy crop after the flood damage.
The government should know that this is not the season for growing paddy, but the paddy crop is already ready and has started reaching the markets. Similarly, when farmers were affected by floods and wanted to register for compensation, there was no insurance company at that time. The government had not notified the insurance companies till then. Similarly, the government repeatedly sprinkles salt on the wounds of the farmers.
