The announcement of a remake of Paper Mario: The Legend of the Aeon Gate at the end of this week’s Nintendo Direct came as quite a surprise.
Many people will be happy about a new edition of the GameCube classic, but how well does it compare to the original?
Looked closely
The YouTube channel GameXplain has published a video that shows the new version and the original in direct comparison.
For example, it is noticeable that the colors in the remake appear a little stronger, and some paper patterns also seem to have changed. Furthermore, the water effects look prettier and of course it looks sharper overall.
Further news about Paper Mario: The Legend of the Aeon Gate:
However, it all seems to have its price. Initial analyzes based on the material from the Nintendo Direct indicate that the remake only runs at 30 fps. The original ran at 60 fps on the GameCube.
Perhaps surprising for fans of the original, the previous part on the Switch – Paper Mario: The Origami King – only ran at 30 fps.
Then again, it will still be a while until the remake of Paper Mario: The Legend of the Aeon Gate appears sometime in 2024. We’ll see what the frame rate really looks like in the end.
From a technical standpoint Paper Mario Thousand Years Door looks great. The only bummer is that they lost the 60fps of the original for 30fps in the remaster.
