Jind, 19 April

The Public Works Department will have to wait longer to start the construction process of the approximately Rs 180 crore road project to increase the width of the 70 km long Jind-Safidon-Panipat State Highway. The reason is that the land given to the Forest Department in Faridabad district for planting new saplings in place of the trees that will be cut in the Jind district border for this road project, has been declared unfit for plantation by the Forest Department.

The Public Works Department is waiting for the NOC from the Forest Department for cutting more than 6500 lush green trees standing on this road since last year. It was expected that NOC would be received from the Forest Department headquarters in the month of March for cutting these trees, but once again the issue of giving land in return is stuck. The state government had given about 27 acres of land in Faridabad district to the forest department. This land was given in exchange for cutting lush green trees to complete the Jind-Panipat State Highway road project. According to departmental sources, now the Forest Department has declared that land in Faridabad district unfit for plantation. The Forest Department has described this land as hard top and said that plantation is not possible on it.

Suggestion to give land in Jind district only

In the Road Safety meeting chaired by DC Mohammad Imran Raza, member Sunil Vashishtha raised the issue of delay in this road project, then it came to light that the Forest Department has declared the land given to it in Faridabad district as unfit for plantation, Which has been given in exchange for this road project of Jind district. After this, the members suggested the DC to hand over the Panchayat land of one or several villages in Jind district to the Forest Department. From the stage of the rally organized by BJP district head Raju Mor in the old grain market of Safidon, the then CM Manohar Lal had announced to increase the width of Jind-Safidon State Highway from the present 7 meters to 10 meters. This state highway from Safidon to Panipat will be made of four lane. This state highway is the most sensitive in terms of road accidents in Jind district. Most road accidents occur on this highway.

waiting for permission

Rajkumar Nain, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, says that permission to cut trees is awaited from the Forest Department. As soon as the permission is granted, the construction process of the project will be started.
