It seems that Amazon is investing a lot of money in Lara Croft or Tomb Raider.
A new report says it’s shelled out a few hundred million dollars to secure the rights.
What does Lara’s future hold?
As the Lord of the Rings fan site Fellowship of Fans reports, the Embracer Group, which recently took over the Tomb Raider rights from Square Enix, has made the right choice.
The first version of the Fellowship of Fans report said that Embracer sold the rights for $600 million. After an update, however, it is said that Amazon has “leased” the rights for this price.
More on the subject:
After purchasing the rights to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it would be the second-largest amount Amazon has invested in rights use.
All of this would also fit with recent reports surrounding Amazon’s activities regarding Tomb Raider.
In December 2022, Amazon and Crystal Dynamics announced that they were working together on the next Tomb Raider game, which in turn would be based on Unreal Engine 5.
It was reported again this week that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to write a Tomb Raider live-action series for Amazon. There was also talk that Amazon could plan a coherent universe with series, films and game for Tomb Raider.
