Rumor: Mass Effect 5 will forego Andromeda’s open-world format

BioWare is reportedly changing its approach to Mass Effect 5, according to recent rumors.

Apparently they are saying goodbye to the open world concept that was introduced with Andromeda and are instead aiming for a more linear design of the game world.

Back to the roots

Jez Corden from Window Central mentioned this in the latest episode of his podcast The Xbox Two Podcast.

This was fundamentally about established studios sticking to a successful formula that has shaped their games, versus the risks and potential failures that come with innovation.

In the course of this, Corden also mentioned the next Mass Effect. At the time, Andromeda had problems building on the success of the original trilogy.

“I heard that Mass Effect is abandoning the open-world approach and going back to its classic format,” he says. “I can’t confirm this with 100% certainty, but it is a common industry rumor.”

Fans who couldn’t get used to Andromeda’s open-world approach will certainly welcome such a development.
