A shooting in the vicinity of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) left a police officer injured and an alleged thief arrested, authorities reported this Tuesday.
“A few minutes ago, Mexico City police personnel in an operation to persecute alleged criminals, had a confrontation in the vicinity of Carlos León Avenue, resulting in an injured police officer and a detainee,” the AICM said in a publication on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
He pointed out that, “immediately”, the security devices of the Secretary of the Navy, airport security and the Auxiliary Police were activated.
Likewise, he assured that “no passenger or visitor was put at risk” and noted that action is being taken with the corresponding judicial authorities.
Meanwhile, the police chief of the Mexican capital, Pablo Vázquez Camacho, reported on the same social network that personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security detained a man outside the AICM related to the theft of cargo trucks in the area of customs officer, “who fired shots at the police officers and, as a result, a colleague suffered gunshot wounds.
According to some social media publications, the shooting caused moments of panic in the Terminal 1 area, which is home to departures and arrivals of both national and international flights.
