Superintendents of Police of many districts may also be punished – dainiktribuneonline.com

Chandigarh, 22 November (Trinew)

There has been a big drama in the case of suspension of IOs (investigating officers) who have been stalling police cases for more than a year. An attempt was also made to mislead Home Minister Anil Vij in this matter. Vij easily caught the game played by the police. Now after handing over the investigation to Home Secretary TVSN Prasad, the problems of many police officers have increased. Superintendents of Police of many districts may also be blamed.

In fact, Vij had sought a report from the Home Department regarding those investigating officers who had cases pending with them for more than a year. The names of 372 such investigating officers appeared in the report. Vij first sent a notice to everyone and then sent a reminder so that the pending cases could be settled. Even after this, if no action was taken, he issued instructions to suspend everyone. Following Vij’s instructions, Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police suspended around 100 IOs. A few days’ time was sought to take action on the rest.

Last day, the DGP sent the compiled report from the districts to Vij through the Home Secretary. This report mentioned only 99 IOs who had pending cases. Vij understood the whole matter immediately. He ordered the Home Secretary to investigate the entire matter.

Speaking to the media in Chandigarh on Wednesday, Vij said, there is a lot of difference between the two reports. It is clear from this that someone or the other has tried to mislead the government. This is a serious matter and strict action will be taken against the officials responsible for it. Vij also fears that a conspiracy has been hatched to mislead the government to hush up the entire matter. The Home Secretary has made strong comments on the report of the DGP office sent to the Home Minister. It has also been asked to investigate these comments in depth. If the right structure is in place, then the Superintendents of Police of at least four districts as well as senior officers of the rank of ADGP can be held accountable.

Will get to the bottom of the whole matter: Vij

In response to a question, Vij said that the possibility of any kind of wrongdoing cannot be ruled out. It is possible that such a report may have been made under some pressure from top to bottom as part of a plan to hush up the entire matter. The higher authorities may have understood that the number of investigating officers who have been suspended is sufficient and the rest of the matter should be ignored, but I will get to the bottom of the entire matter.
