“We evaluate each game individually and ensure that it is available on Xbox consoles, PCs and via cloud gaming, making it accessible on a wide range of web-enabled devices,” he says.
“We’re focused on giving players the choice of how they want to build their game libraries.”
It remains unclear whether, for example, a decision has already been made internally but is not yet made public. In a 2021 interview, Spencer seemed to hint that The Elder Scrolls 6 could be an Xbox exclusive.
This year, during the dispute with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over the takeover of Activision Blizzard, he said that they didn’t even know what the platforms would look like at release time. The game is still at least five years away.
There were previously different statements about Starfield. Before ZeniMax’s acquisition by Microsoft was completed, Howard said he had a “hard time” imagining Starfield becoming an Xbox exclusive. This week, he again said that Xbox exclusivity helped make Starfield a better product.
