They demand release of employee detained for fire at the INM

CIUDAD JUÁREZ, CHIH.- Friends and family of Rodolfo Collazo, worker at the National Migration Institute (INM) in Ciudad Juárez, they held a demonstration at the Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to demand their release, after a year of their arrest on March 27 for the fire in which 40 people died.

The protest took place outside the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, where the worker’s children and relatives went, who claim that he was arrested without an arrest warrant.

The protesters pointed out that although they have presented evidence of his innocence, he has not been released and so far he has not been sentenced for the crime of omission, for which they point him out.

In this sense, the family members asked for his immediate release and speedy resolution of the case, they also stressed that the head of the INM, Francisco Garduño, is free and continues to lead the institute.

“May the trial be fair, my husband and Garduño outside, both of them carrying out their process outside. Why is my husband detained even with proof that he is innocent? Mr. Garduño is very comfortable, he has his job, he gets paid, he is free, when he should be detained in the area where my husband is,” said María Trujillo, wife of Rodolfo Collazo.

The families brought blankets and cards with messages explaining that Rodolfo was not at the immigration station when the incident occurred, while in others they demanded that Garduño not be imprisoned.
