Social media sites in Lebanon are full of discussions and demands related to blocking the TikTok application in the country, following the Lebanese security services luring and arresting a group of people influential on the application, after they were suspected of involvement in luring minors over the Internet, raping them, and then blackmailing them.

Since the Lebanese security services officially announced the arrest of a group of people, debates have not stopped on social media platforms, discussing the role and responsibility of the TikTok application in the crime, and whether the owner company bears responsibility towards the victims.

While many Lebanese call for blocking the application to protect children, others defend it.

Arrest of members of an organized gang

On Wednesday, the Internal Security Forces in Lebanon announced the arrest of six people in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and the northern regions, including three minors who are “famous on the TikTok application and are of Lebanese, Syrian, and Turkish nationalities,” according to an official statement.
