Verstappen continues his full performance in Miami with pole for Sunday

Sainz will start third and Alonso, fifteenth

MADRID, May 4. (.) –

The Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull) achieved pole position for the Miami Grand Prix, the sixth round of the World Championship, to continue his full performance on the American track, where he already won the Sprint this Saturday, ahead of the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, while Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) stayed in Q2.

At times it seemed like there was a battle between Red Bull and Ferrari, but Verstappen took first place on the grid on Sunday. The world champion, first in every race this campaign and winner in all except Australia, once again led the race despite the fact that Miami left a session with unexpected twists.

The surprise for many was the tire management and a very changing track conditions, not always for improvement. Thus, in the second round of Q3, there was not the progression that many expected and Verstappen was left with the best time ahead of the Ferraris. Sainz regretted having his teammate in front of him once again on Saturday, but the only one to take a race away from the Dutchman was the Spaniard and he will undoubtedly try again in Miami.

The other Red Bull, Sergio Pérez’s, will start fourth, while the McLarens achieved a good position to make up for a weekend of mistakes when they seem to have a chance of putting up a fight. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will start fifth and sixth, while seventh and eighth will be the Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, saving their options for Sunday.

The Sprint had not smiled at the silver arrows, especially at Hamilton who caused a good pile-up at the start that left Fernando Alonso, among others, out of combat. The Spaniard, upset with the sanctions he receives while others escape, could not shake the bitter taste in a classification that he suffered.

The double world champion narrowly missed Q3 and was left out in Q2, so he will start fifteenth, hoping that things remain somewhat unpredictable and that his luck changes at the Miami International Autodrome.
