After endorsing the results of the polls that defined Claudia Sheinbaum as the virtual presidential candidate of Morena, PT and PVEM, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador handed over command of the movement to her, since her cycle as the leader ended.
“I am no longer the leader of the transformation movement in Mexico,” he said before his meeting last night with the former head of government, leaders and governors of the 4T in a restaurant near the National Palace.
After the meeting, Sheinbaum said that there is still a lot to do. “We will always protect his legacy,” he told the President in a message.
“I take it (the baton) with pride and commitment, but with humility and full responsibility to continue the course set by our people,” he added.
Earlier, in his morning conference, López Obrador indicated that he will no longer intervene in the movement’s decisions and will dedicate the remainder of the six-year term to consolidating welfare programs.
Offer to continue the transformation

Last night, all the governors of Morena and related parties, the Moreno and PT leaders, and those who contended with Sheinbaum for being the coordinators of the Defense of the 4T met in a bookstore on the corner of Justo Sierra and Argentina, in the Historic Center of Mexico City.
The ceremony was held on the second floor of the building, in the El Mayor restaurant, and, later, everyone went out to the main door of the bookstore to allow the media to have an image of the President handing over the baton to Sheinbaum and for the eventual presidential candidate to repeat the speech she had given privately minutes before.
“I take this baton of command, representation of the deepest values of our living history, of the indigenous peoples, I take it with pride and commitment, but with humility and full responsibility to continue the course set by our people, that of transformation initiated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Rest assured that I will rise to the occasion,” Sheinbaum said.
In her speech, before hundreds of people who gathered outside the bookstore, the former head of government reiterated that she will remain faithful to the principles dictated by President López Obrador, will continue to support the most vulnerable sectors of the population and the model termed by López Obrador as “Mexican humanism”.
He insisted on his call for unity in Morena and thanked the respect shown by his opponents before his victory in the polls carried out by Morena, in which he was the absolute winner.
In his speech, Sheinbaum avoided referring to Marcelo Ebrard, who stated that the polls should be reinstated.
“Thank you very much to everyone who is part of this movement, and from here I tell you: the doors of our movement will always be open, we will always call for unity, but, above all, the governing leaders of our party , of our movement and, of course, to Ricardo Monreal, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, Manuel Velasco, Adán Agusto López, our recognition, we are all part of this movement.”
He insisted that, despite the fact that López Obrador delegated command of the Fourth Transformation to him, the man from Tabasco will continue to be his political reference and was encouraged to launch a harangue towards the June elections of next year.
“With this historic baton of command that I receive from the President of the Republic, who has been and is our leader, Andrés Manuel López Obrador; Even if he brings the baton, we will always protect his legacy and there is a lot of work to be done forward, because we are going — I don’t know if it can be said — but let’s go by 2024! ”, Sheinbaum sentenced.
The command baton delivered by López Obrador, about 120 centimeters long, had a toucan head at its end and had several colored ribbons.
The former delegation head in Tlalpan stressed that she will comply with the premises of not stealing, not lying and not betraying imposed by López Obrador on his social movement.
The President left the National Palace around 8:00 p.m. and arrived at the bookstore at 8:07 p.m.
Before the head of the Executive, Sheinbaum and the governors of Michoacán, Veracruz, Colima, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, Baja California, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Nayarit, Morelos, Puebla, Tabasco, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Zacatecas, Quintana Roo, Campeche arrived at the establishment. , the head of government of Mexico City and the elected governor of Edomex.

The national president of the PAN, Marko Cortés, called on Marcelo Ebrard to join the Broad Front for Mexico.
“If your differences with Morena and López Obrador are real, then show greatness and height of vision. You know that with this regime things are going from bad to worse, there are serious setbacks in health, education, in the fight against extreme poverty.

The general secretary of Morena, Citlalli Hernández, affirmed that the internal process carried out to choose its coordinator was unprecedented to define the continuity of her project, although she accepted that “there is much to improve.”

Ricardo Monreal, a former candidate for the coordination of the Defense of the 4T, considered it a mistake for Morena to underestimate the political strength of Marcelo Ebrard.
“It is a mistake to push him to participate for other political alternatives,” he said in statements to the media.
“It does not seem appropriate to me that they are disqualifying him and hitting the networks of our supporters,” he said.
The licensed senator from Morena sent a message to whoever his opponent was heading to 2024, and asked him to think carefully about what he is going to do, after not being favored in the internal process of the 4T.
