New Delhi. Joe Root stepped down as England’s Test captain last month. In the last one year, the English team did not get any special performance under his leadership. During this the team won only one match. England lost 4-0 in the Ashes series against Australia. After that the team toured the West Indies, where England also lost against the Caribbean team. After this, Joe Root thought it appropriate to resign from the captaincy. After him, Ben Stokes has been appointed as the new Test captain of England. Mark Wood has revealed why Joe Root left the captaincy.

While talking on the ‘Middle Please, Umpire’ podcast, Mark Wood explained the reason for leaving the captaincy of Joe Root. He was quite successful in the test under Root’s captaincy. He admitted during the conversation that Root disappointed England under his captaincy. Speaking on the podcast, he said, “I feel sorry for Joe Root. I think it’s worth saying. I did really well under his captaincy. Root gave me a chance. He kept in touch after I got injured, it seems we have let him down. He used to do so much behind the scenes that people cannot see.”

Mark Wood said in the podcast, ‘He always worked with me on the batting, he was doing a lot with trying to get it right. He did everything to bring good results. But the result was not achieved according to him. After which he took this decision. I am happy about his decision to step down from the captaincy. If this decision is affecting him and his family behind the scenes then it is not good.

Wood succeeded under Root’s captaincy

Under the captaincy of Joe Root, fast bowler Mark Wood wrote a new prayer of success. Under his leadership, Wood represented England in 17 Test matches, taking 55 wickets. During this his average was 29.94. He could have increased his number of wickets on the West Indies tour but did not go on the tour of West Indies due to an elbow injury. Due to this injury, he could not participate in IPL-2022. In the 15th season, he was included in his team by Lucknow Super Giants.
